Triple Forte
Triple Forte brings together three of Canada’s most renowned soloists: violinist Jasper Wood, cellist Denise Djokic, and pianist David Jalbert. In joining forces to create a superlative piano trio, they have captured critics’ and audiences’ attention with their passion, intelligence, and sensitivity, as well as the sheer joy they bring to the stage.
Their debut album, released on ATMA in 2012 and devoted to early 20th- century masterpieces by Ravel, Shostakovich, and Ives, was awarded the Opus Prize in the category Album of the Year (Modern and Contemporary Music) and was nominated for a JUNO Award after eliciting rave reviews: “Triple Forte, in musical terms, means as loud as possible, but this all- Canadian piano trio excels in fine nuance, not noise... Changing rhythmic and expressive gears with deceptive ease, Triple Forte entrance with their single-minded grace, finding sensible balance between musical muscle and subtle expression throughout” (Toronto Star). In 2015, they released a recording of Dvořák’s last two masterful piano trios, again enthusiastically received.
Triple Forte was founded in 2003 to instant success, performing over 35 concerts in its first active season. Tours have now taken the group to all corners of Canada and the United States. They have recorded several broadcasts for CBC Radio, showcasing a wide-ranging repertoire from Haydn’s trios all the way through to recent commissions such as Utter, written for the ensemble by the young composer Reiko Yamada.
"Encores there must be wherever Wood and Riley play: theirs is a beautiful collaboration. Wood is always a joy to hear."
